Since Brett Gardner was let go after the 2021 season, the Yankees haven’t had any stability in left field. Since 2021, the Bronx Bombers have had 17 different players play left field. However, none of them proved to be the answer to what has become a three-year-old problem. It is widely expected that hyped top prospect Jasson Dominguez will be patrolling the position in 2025. The question that Yankee fans salivating over is can Jasson Dominguez end New York’s left field woes?
The Yankees Haven’t Found Their Left Fielder

This issue has become so comical that some people are calling it the “Curse of Brett Gardner.” Players like Aaron Hicks, Joey Gallo, Alex Verdugo, Clint Frazier, and others all patrolled left field at various times. However, none of them proved to be the solution. Verdugo is now a free agent, Aaron Judge is moving back to right field, and the recently signed Cody Bellinger is probably playing center field. This means Dominguez will slot into left field and become the 18th player in four years to play the position. The Yankees are currently pinning their hopes on “the Martian” to be their long-term solution in left field.
A Concerning 18 Game Stint

In 18 games, the 21-year-old only had a slash line of .179/.313/.304 with just two homers, four RBI, and an OPS of .617. This was a far cry from when he homered four times in eight games before his UCL injury. However, that wasn’t the most concerning thing Dominguez did last season.
Jasson Dominguez was a big liability in the field last season. The young outfielder had moments where he misplayed routine fly balls, dropping easy outs, and double clutching his throws. The 21-year-old even admitted that his defense needs to improve. An argument could be made that perhaps the long layoff recovering from Tommy John surgery contributed to his fielding struggles.
Next Season Is A Big One For Jasson Dominguez

While 2025 isn’t a make-or-break year for Dominguez, it’s still a big season in the sense that he’ll have an opportunity to make an impression. The expectations surrounding the young slugger are high and he needs to prove he can be a consistent contributor. The Yankees are counting on him to be a lineup mainstay for years to come. Given the Yankees’ never-ending problems in left field, it makes it even more important for him to produce.
Jasson Dominguez Could Be The Answer

With Jasson Dominguez most likely the left fielder in 2025, he’ll be the 18th Yankee in four years to play the position. The 21-year-old struggled both offensively and defensively during his 18-game stint with the big club in 2024. With the young outfielder finally healthy, next season is a huge opportunity for him to prove he can be a lineup mainstay, and Dominguez could perhaps finally end the Yankees left-field problem.
