In recent years, the Boston Red Sox have fallen off from being a championship contender. They’ve finished in last place three times in the past four years. Despite playing in a big market, owner John Henry has been content with operating the franchise cheaply, much to the chagrin of their fans. The team recently announced that they were partnering with Netflix to give fans an unprecedented look at their season. Accompanying that show is a docuseries on Boston’s iconic 2004 championship team.

The 2024 Season Might Be the Red Sox Most Embarrassing Yet

This upcoming season, the Red Sox are going to be a disaster to watch. Many publications have them finishing in last place for the third year in a row. Despite the state of their team, Fenway Sports Group green-lighted a deal with Netflix to produce a series following the team this season. The entire country will now be able to witness the inner workings of a losing team. Accompanying that series will be one about the Red Sox 2004 championship team.

The Red Sox Have Now Resorted to Selling the Past

The Red Sox trying to open old Yankee wounds is not surprising. This is what the franchise does when it is going through tough times. It’s apparently what makes them feel better about themselves. Heck, Boston could be playing a team like the Miami Marlins and fans pathetically chant “Yankees suck” when they are losing. You know a team has had such a fall from grace when it’s attempting to sell people the past. They are trying to distract from the fact that they’ve been mostly awful for the past five years. This is a move that I would expect from perennial bad teams like the Pirates or Angels.

The 2004 Red Sox Story Has Been Overtold

The accomplishments of the 2004 Boston Red Sox have been well documented since it happened. They had a historic comeback in the ALCS against the Yankees sending them to the World Series. At the time, the Boston Red Sox hadn’t appeared in the fall classic since 1986. The curse would officially be extinguished when Boston swept the St. Louis Cardinals giving them their first championship in 86 years.

Since that championship, countless books, articles, and movies have been produced about that season. ESPN even gave the 2004 team a “30 for 30” documentary. It’s been 20 years since the Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino. Red Sox fans need to get over it! At this point, they’ve shoved it down everybody’s throat. Boston has since won World Series titles in 2007, 2013, and 2018. It appears those teams aren’t enough of a distraction from what is shaping up to be another lost season.

A Pathetic Attempt to Distract From Another Lost Year

The Red Sox feeling the need to produce something else about their 2004 team shows how far they’ve fallen. Boston is going to be embarrassed when the entire nation gets an in-depth view of a losing team on Netflix. Whenever Boston is going through some lean times, they seem to shove their 2004 championship season in people’s faces. This is something that losers do. It’s been 20 years since that season and the Red Sox and their fans need to stop reliving it! Nothing is going to distract anyone from just how bad things have gotten for the Boston Red Sox. Their latest attempt at creating a distraction is pathetic!
