The Oakland Athletics nabbed their second straight win, third overall thanks to a 7-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Outstanding pitching plus solid offense were on display for the Green & Gold on Sunday.

Joe Boyle lowered his ERA into the single digits after a rough outing in his first start. He threw five solid innings, striking out six batters while allowing just two hits. Although, he did walk three batters…

Hitting-wise, the Athletics put on a show. The offense scored seven runs on 14 hits, led by an outstanding day from second baseman Zach Gelof.

The young infielder went 4-5 on Sunday, including a three-run home run in the second inning. He also made an impact from the beginning, tripling home Abraham Toro in the first inning for the early lead.

Speaking of Toro, the team’s new leadoff hitter went 2-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Oakland’s bullpen, led by Kyle Muller got the job done after Boyle’s departure. Pitching 2 1/3 innings, he allowed Detroit’s only run of the game and just two hits total. Lucas Erceg and Michael Kelly made sure no one else crossed the plate.
