Willy Adames will most likely be departing the Brewers during free agency for greener pastures. This creates a hole in the middle of the Brewers lineup. Fortunately for the Brewers, the Philadelphia Phillies put all-star Alec Bohm on the trade block. Given that Joey Ortiz is probably moving to shortstop, this allows the Brewers to acquire Bohm and play him at his natural third-base position. The 28-year-old also has two years of control left; this would instantly solve the Brewers’ middle-of-the-lineup needs.
The Brewers Need A New RBI Threat

Given Adames’s impending departure, this now creates a big hole in the middle of the Milwaukee Brewers lineup. Replacing a player who hit 32 home runs, and 112 RBIs last season is a tough task for any team, especially the low-budget Brewers. Given the promising year Joey Ortiz had in 2024, he’ll probably be moved over to shortstop. Moving Ortiz over naturally creates an opening at third base.
Alec Bohm Is On The Trade Block

One of those changes seems to involve trying to trade all-star third baseman Alec Bohm. Despite hitting 97 RBI in back-to-back seasons and making his first all-star team, Philadelphia doesn’t view him as a “franchise cornerstone.” With how underwhelming the Phillies’ hyped-up lineup has been in recent postseasons, Dombrowski is looking to shake things up. Given Bohm has two years of control left, the Phillies shouldn’t have any issues trading him.
The Phillies Need A Closer And Milwaukee Has One To Give
Embed from Getty ImagesOne glaring need the Phillies must address is who their closer will be in 2025. Jose Alvarado isn’t the answer, Jeff Hoffman and trade deadline acquisition Carlos Estevez are currently free agents. While Matt Strahm and Jose Ruiz have closed games before, both players are still unproven. This is where Milwaukee can come to a perfect intersection with the Phillies. Two-time all-star closer Devin Williams will be a free agent after next season. Given how they operate, Milwaukee will probably not be interested in giving him an extension. Williams is a very accomplished closer and with Trevor Megill proving he’s a capable replacement, the Brewers star is now expendable.
How The Brewers Can Get The Deal Done
If the Brewers decide to trade Devin Williams and a top prospect to the Phillies, then that should be enough to acquire Bohm. Philadelphia would get their closer and a promising prospect, and Milwaukee would acquire a controllable middle-of-the-lineup bat and third baseman. There is nothing that should hold the Brewers back from making this trade, it makes too much sense. While Bohm made his first all-star team last year, some say the Phillies third baseman still has untapped potential. On top of all that, Bohm strikes out 10.9% less than Adames. With how much less media pressure there is in Milwaukee compared to Philadelphia, Alec Bohm has a big opportunity to blossom in the Cream City.
This Trade Would Benefit Milwaukee Tremendously
Embed from Getty ImagesWilly Adames has played his last game in Milwaukee and Joey Ortiz is moving to shortstop, this means Milwaukee now needs a new RBI threat and third baseman. Meanwhile, the Phillies need a closer and want to trade away middle-of-the-lineup bat and third baseman Alec Bohm. The Brewers have an all-star caliber closer in Devin Williams who will be eligible for free agency after next season. The Brewers and Phillies both have a lane of intersection where they both fill each other’s needs. Milwaukee can get a controllable all-star bat and third baseman by trading Devin Williams and a prospect to Philadelphia. If things work out, Bohm breaks out with the Brewers, and Milwaukee now has dynamite in their lineup for the next two years. This is too good of an opportunity for Milwaukee to pass up over keeping Devin Williams for one more season.
