WrestleMania season is upon us once again! Every year, dozens over wrestling promotions put on shows and events all week leading up to the show of shows. This year is no different.
Promotions from all over the world flocked to New York this year to join in on the festivities and i’m here to let you know what’s going on! You can find most of these shows on FITE TV.
Thursday, April 4th
There are 15 different shows on Thursday. Evolve 125 kicks off the day at noon ET in Queens. Austin Theory will defend his Evolve World Championship against NXT star and member of the Undisputed Era, Kyle O’Riley. This has the potential to be one of the better matches of the whole week.
At 4 pm, Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport will take place. This includes the pro wrestling debut of former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Frank Mir as well as Josh Barnett himself taking on Minoru Suzuki in the main event.
Bloodsport is a shoot style show. The competitors mostly have a background in MMA. No ropes, and the only way to win your matches is by KO or submission. Usually, this is one of the more popular shows of the whole week.
After Bloodsport, it’s time for the WrestleCon Supershow! WrestleCon starts at 7 pm. They always put on an amazing show and this year will feature Jushin Thunder Liger, Bandido, Will Ospreay, Masato Tanaka, the Lucha Bros and more.
At 11 pm, Impact Wrestling’s United We Stand is on and it will feature Sabu & RVD, two legends in wrestling take on one of the best tag teams in the world, the Lucha Bros. The night rounds itself out with the always odd Kaiju Big Battel and AIW.
Friday, April 5th
15 shows happen again but of course, Friday is headlined by NXT TakeOver: New York. Adam Cole vs. Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT championship is my pick to steal the entire week. Also, probably the best show.
Revolution Pro is teaming with New Japan Pro Wrestling for a show as well as the WWN super show will both start at 3 pm. Both shows look to be chalked full of great wrestling.
At 8pm, while NXT TakeOver is going on, Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 Part 1 will begin as well as Joey Ryan’s Penis Party (oh yeah).
JJSB Part 1 will feature matches such as indy stud Orange Cassidy takes on former WWF Light Heavyweight champion and current NJPW star, Taka Michinoku as well as Invisible Stan vs Invisible Man (don’t ask, just watch).
The night finishes with Blackcraft Wrestling beginning at midnight.
Saturday, April 6th
There are 9 shows on Saturday and they will be headlined by ROH and NJPW’s joint show, G1 SuperCard in Madison Square Garden.
This is the first time that a non WWE show was ran in The Garden and the tickets sold out almost instantly. The card is stacked and it wouldn’t look out of place at a Tokyo Dome show.
At noon, GCW Presents – Orange Cassidy is Doing Something or Whatever at the White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, NJ. Yeah, that’s the full title. This is more or less a comedy show but something us fans will need this far down the stretch in ‘Mania week.
The WWE Hall of Fame is at 7 pm and to finish the night, Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 Part 2 kicks off at midnight. This show will more than likely have the cluster**** match as well as the other crazy matches Janela can throw together.
Sunday, April 7th
The Bullet Club hosts their block party at Redd’s Restaurant in Carlstadt, NJ at 10 am and at 5 pm, it’s time for WrestleMania!
The pre-show starts at 5 pm and the main card begins at 7 pm in MetLife Stadium in front of 80,000 fans. WrestleMania speaks for itself and looks to be a solid show.
We have the Raw and SmackDown Live after WrestleMania on the following Monday and Tuesday. Those are always can’t miss.
Novelty Matches
There are several matches that i’m personally looking forward to but here are a few that look to be different to say the least.
Invisible Man vs. Invisible Stan: Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 Part 1
Swoggle (Hornswoggle) vs. Scott Steiner: AIW’s Slumber Party Massacre
LAX vs. Rock ‘n Roll Express: Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 Part 2
RVD & Sabu vs. Pentagon Jr & Ray Fenix: Impact Wrestling – United We Stand
Frank Mir vs. Dan Severn: Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport
This looks to be another great week of wrestling. There are many shows I didn’t mention all throughout the week and don’t think that they’re not worth checking over!
Many of these shows are able to be streamed on FITE TV and if not, it’s because they’re on their own respective streaming services.
