About a month ago I posted my Fantasy Football early 2019 Running back rankings. With 2 weeks of pre-season in the books, let us take a look at the Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings, Risers, and Fallers. I didn’t use tiers this time as you can pretty much tell the groupings with the following rankings running backs.
I did compare my rankings to the current ADP. The ADP (Average Draft Position) is where guys are going in drafts as of right now. I use Fantasy Football Pro’s but you can find them anywhere. It is always good to compare your fantasy football rankings, whether it is with quarterbacks or any other position.

Risers
Nick Chubb: Ranked 7th
Chubb makes it into my top 10! Honestly should have been there but I did not want to be on the hype train. The fact of the matter is the kid is good! What we saw last year should translate well to this year. The offensive line should be good again, Baker Mayfield will be great. Chubb breaks yards after tackle. If you have a later pick, do not overthink, take Chubb.
Chris Carson: Ranked 20th
As I see reports out of Seattle about the running back situation, I can’t help but get excited about Chris Carson! He is moving up my board on would love him as my RB2. Rashaad Penny will be there as the second back, but Carson should get a bulk of the work. Seahawks beat writer Joe Fann was quoted as saying “I anticipate Carson taking at least two-thirds of the workload, but Penny will still get a few series a game,” “Brian Schottenheimer’s plan to utilize running backs more in the passing game will also help bump Penny’s usage a bit.” Give me some Carson!
David Montgomery: Ranked 23rd
Another guy climbing my rankings is the Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery. The Bears and head coach Matt Nagy are in love with him. Montgomery has had a great camp and pre-season.
Terez Paylor on Twitter stated, “He’s a no-nonsense guy who takes football very seriously. The Bears love that, plus his receiving skills & make-you-miss”. All signs point to a high upside RB2 for Montgomery, wouldn’t be surprised he finishes a top 12 running back in 2019.
Fallers
Note: I will not be adding Ezekial Elliot to this list as the Cowboys have made him an offer today if he signs that will put him back in the top four.
Melvin Gordon: Ranked 17th
I believe ranking Gordon right now at 17th is still high. Gordon has been taken off my board with reports saying that the 2 sides are far apart and this could lead well into the season. I have a rule if there is an ongoing injury situation or contract dispute on draft day, then just stay away.
Phillip Lindsay: Ranked 26th
Last year’s surprise running back has been dropping for myself and the rest of the fantasy football world. Lindsay will be in a timeshare with Royce Freeman, but Lindsay is a better pass catcher than Freeman making him more useful. Lindsay’s uncertain workload makes him a potential boom-or-bust pick. Try to stay away from running back by committees until you know who will get a bulk of the touches.
As you can see not too many fantasy football running backs fell too far. Just keep an eye on injuries and timeshare throughout the pre-season.
