Spring training is coming in the next few weeks, which means baseball is back. But the Colorado Rockies still have some burning questions heading into spring training.
The Colorado Rockies have a good core of all-star worthy players and a lineup that could light up a pitcher at any given time during a game. They are coming off a season where they didn’t quite meet their expectations and it has been a slow offseason for the team.
Will the rift between Nolan Arenado and the Rockies front office affect the team?
It’s well known that the Rockies and Nolan Arenado have a conflict regarding trade rumors. There is also the lack of moves on the Rockies part. Both sides have said that it won’t be a problem. But is it that realistic considering it is out there? The Rockies better hope that the tension does not affect the locker room and the focus of the players. Let’s see if there any lasting effects throughout the season.
Did the Rockies meet any of their needs?
It does not seem like the Rockies meet any of their needs in the offseason. Their lack of moves is not instilling any confidence among the fanbase and the players. The Rockies needed at least one starting pitcher, back -up catcher and bullpen arms but they have yet to address it. If they want to contend this season, they may want to make some sort of move.
Do they have enough pitching?
Pitching has been a struggle for the Rockies in the past few years. They have some good young arms with German Marquez, Jon Gray and Kyle Freeland in their rotation. Marquez and Gray had a good 2019 season while Freeland is looking to bounce back. The Bullpen is still a mess and they haven’t made any move yet to address it. The Rockies need to find some sort of pitching and soon. Whether it be through small free-agent deal or trade.
There is still time to address these burning questions as spring training approaches. Keep an eye on these storylines in the coming days.
