Not NASCAR, but IMSA kicks off the 2020 racing season at Daytona International Speedway. Let me start off by saying I know absolutely nothing about sports car racing besides Forza is dope. However, I am going to spend 2020 following both IMSA series and hopping on every band wagon until i figure it out. Since I am ignorant on most things IMSA related I have no in-depth analysis to offer. Although, I can deliver some good old BS about whats happening with the Rolex 24 at Daytona set for next week.
Hailie Deegan Will Make Ford Debut in BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona
One of the biggest moves in motor sports over the winter break was Hailie Deegan making the switch from Toyota to Ford. The addition of Deegan brings the focus back to the Blue Oval that has only produced one Manufacturer’s Championship in the last 18 years. Deegan is successful in every vehicle she races and I don’t see the Michelin Pilot Series being any different. The BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona gets the 2020 season started next Wednesday. Also, I’m excited to see the racing produced by the Daytona Road Course. Look for me to scream for it on the Cup Series schedule by next Friday.
Kyle Busch Opens 2020 Season at the Rolex 24 at Daytona
Sports car racing at Daytona isn’t foreign territory for Busch. With Scott Speed co-piloting, Busch produced a 10th place finish in the 2009 Brumos Porsche 250. Whether you like it or not, Busch is one of the greatest drivers of this generation and ever. His personality is as appealing as a hairless bear, but behind the wheel Busch is elite. The question for me is how does he handle being in the car for that much more time? Easy answer. Kyle Busch doesn’t give a f*** so I imagine it will be just another race for “The Candy Man” and look for his team to be near the top of the leader board.
Expectations for 2020 IMSA Season
As I mentioned before sports car racing is an unknown for me. IMSA offers a fresh type of racing that I am happy to become familiarized with. With all respect to oval racing, I freaking love road courses. My favorite NASCAR races to watch are always Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire. Throw in Mid-Ohio too since it’s in my native Buckeye state. There’s poetry in watching a race car tear through esses or a chicane before ripping off down a half mile straight. Look for more quality IMSA related content soon as I dive into the world of sports car racing in 2020.
