Every year in Major League Baseball milestones is reached on various different levels. For example, the younger players are searching for that 100th homerun or 1000th hit. However, there are a pair of future Hall of Famers looking to climb the ranks in the record books. In addition to breaking down the stellar careers of these two players, we will take a look at a few under the radar milestones to be proud of. Let’s talk about it.
Let’s start off with someone who already has many Milestones to be proud of. Albert Pujols has put together a career that any player would happily hang their hat on. He currently leads all active players in home runs(656), runs batted in(2,075), runs scored(1828), hits(3202) and doubles(661). Pujols has compiled a career .300/.379/.549 slash line which culminates into an amazing .927 OPS(4th). In addition to the spectacular career numbers produced over his 19-year career, Albert has amassed 3 MVPs, 10 All-star selections and 2 World Series rings.
Although this is an impressive amount of awards, only one was achieved after leaving St. Louis for the LA Angels and that was a 2015 All-Star selection. Pujols still had productive seasons in LA but nowhere near the production, he put up in STL. Furthermore, there are still some milestones within reach. Let’s take a look at what’s ahead.
Milestones to be proud of for an all-time great
Milestones to be proud of are easy to find when it comes to Albert Pujols. One of the all-time great hitters in Major League history and probably the first-ballot Hall Of Famer, Pujols ranks among the elite. First of all, he is 6th all-time in home runs and it keeps climbing. While being 40 shy of Alex Rodriguez, a mere four dingers will tie him for 5th with the great Willie Mays. Certainly, a milestone to be proud of. Secondly, Albert is 4th all-time in runs batted in and closing the gap on 3rd place. Sitting at 2,075 RBI, a minuscule 11 more will tie him with Alex Rodriguez. Also noteworthy is being 14th all-time in hits. However, reaching 13th will be more difficult as Pujols sits 200 shy of Nap Lajoie.
One Last Hoorah
Now at the age of 40 its safe to say this storied career is nearing its end. The 2020 season may very well be the last for Pujols but above all, it will be fun to see where he ends up among the all-time greats. Next up will be a breakdown of another great player that will more than likely be joining Pujols in baseball lore. Stay tuned for the next phase of Milestones to be proud of on Belly Up Sports. You had me worried there for a minute, but I checked and Willie Mays is still alive. So he’s great, but he isn’t late.
