In 2021, a brand new racing series will hit the tracks under the name Superstar Racing Experience (SRX). This new series is being led by Tony Stewart, Ray Evernham, George Pyne, and Sandy Montag. Evernham, former NASCAR team owner and crew chief, has taken the reigns on the designing of the cars and Fury Race Cars will handle the construction of the chassis for each team. We don’t know the full specs at this point in time but we do know they will have high horsepower and low downforce. Also, every car will be identical to each other. The question many people on social media, specifically Twitter, are asking, is the Superstar Racing Experience the new IROC?
SRX is preparing a six-race season with 12 drivers in each race. Most of which the tracks will consist of short, half-mile ovals running on dirt and asphalt. Not many tracks have been announced for the debut season. Those that have include Eldora, Lucas Oil Raceway, and talks of Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Along with shorter tracks, the races themselves will be significantly shorter only consisting of about 90 minutes.

How Much Does SRX Resemble IROC?
The IROC, or International Race of Champions series lasted from 1974 to 2006. The series, like the SRX, also consisted of 12 drivers who all ran the exact same cars. The series was designed to test driver ability rather than who had the dominant car. Which seems to have become very prominent in most race series in the modern era. SRX is looking to bring that back in a way for new fans of racing to enjoy.

The real question is, is the Superstar Racing Experience going to be the new IROC? With the information we know, this new series checks all of the boxes. The drivers that have been announced all come from different varieties of racing ranging from NASCAR, F1, IndyCar, and even a couple from the Trans-Am series. The cars themselves will be identical and tuned to driver preference. Although it will resemble all the great things IROC consisted of, it has many things that will make the series its own. With that being said, all of these things put together will create the perfect blend of what the core of racing is all about. Going fast and being the first person to cross the finish line.
