It is always an entertaining event where fans get to see sluggers hit as many home runs as possible. Pete Alonso came into the event as a two-time champion and Julio Rodriquez was a finalist. The other competitors were derby rookies, and they held their own.
Rodriquez ran out of gas after setting a 41-home run record in the first round. In contrast, Randy Arozarena improved from a slow first-round performance to a 35-home run second round. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. held off Arozarena’s rally to capture the home run derby champion. Guerrero Jr gave an incredible performance as he was hitting a lot of home runs in each round. This was one of the best home runs Derby’s in a while with many surprises and fun moments.
