Given how poorly the season has gone for the Yankees, it seems as though Aaron Boone’s days as the club’s manager are numbered. It doesn’t look like postseason baseball will be making a return trip to the Bronx. While the team has had success under him, they haven’t accomplished their goal of winning the World Series. There will be plenty of qualified coaches out there who would make great managerial candidates. However, whoever the Yankees hire shouldn’t have any ties to the organization as either a player or coach.
The Last Two Managers Have Had Yankee Ties

Since the Yankees decided to stick to hiring a manager previously connected to the team; they’ve gone have won one championship in the past 15 seasons. Evidently the model of having a manager who has previously been in the organization as a player or coach isn’t working. I believe the Yankees should hire somebody outside the organization who can bring fresh ideas because this team has become stale.
Less Success With Managers Who Were Previously With the Team

During their years as the Pinstripes clubhouse boss, all three of them combined for a winning percentage of .559 and four World Series championships. However, only one of the four managers to win more than one championship was Ralph Houk. He led the Bombers to championship wins in 1961 and 1962. While the Yankees have had success with managers previously connected to the organization, they’ve won more championships when hiring field bosses with no affiliation with the team.
More Success When Hiring a Manager With No Organizational Affiliation

Miller Huggins, Joe McCarthy, Bucky Harris, Casey Stengel, Joe Torre, and Bob Lemon never had any ties to the team before becoming the bench boss. All five of them combined for a winning percentage of .614 and 23 World Series wins. Hiring a manager with no affiliation has been very successful in the past. Given how the season has gone, New York is in a position where they need to hire someone from the outside. A fresh outlook could do wonders for this franchise.
The Franchise Needs New Ideas

Given how the season has gone and the fact the Yankees are in a championship drought, it’s time to hire a manager from the outside. This franchise has become stale and needs fresh ideas. Historically, New York has had more success whenever they’ve hired a manager with no Yankee ties, there is no reason to think it can’t work again.
