Jack Jones will miss the first four games of the 2023 season
FOXBOROUGH, Mass.– ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss reported earlier on Saturday that New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones will miss the first four games of this upcoming season due to an injured hamstring. The second-year corner showed some promise a season ago when he returned an 40-yard INT against the Green Bay Packers. This is a tough blow to the team’s secondary because now they have to rely on Jonathan Jones, first round pick Christian Gonzalez, Marcus Jones, Myles Bryant, and Shaun Wade. As you can see the Patriots are very thin at the cornerback position. Now the team has a rookie and some veterans needing to step up to the plate and do the best they can in Jones absence.
Jones gun charges dropped
This past Tuesday, charges were dropped from his arrest at Boston’s Logan International Airport of him carrying two-hand guns in his carry on bag. He agreed to a one-year probation and has to serve 48 hours of community service. Originally, when this incident occurred in June, he could have served up to 30 years in jail. But, that wasn’t the case for Jones. This isn’t the first incident he has been through. Back in college, Jones was in trouble when he broke into a Panda Express at 3 A.M. He might want to be on his best behavior from now on because one more mistake could cost him his job.
After his recovery what’s next for Jones
If all goes well for Jones and he returns to the Patriots defense, look for him to be even better than his rookie season in 2022. As far as last season goes he started two games, ended up with 30 tackles, (including 25 solo and 5 assisted) two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also had six passes defensed. Health will be a big thing for Jones once and if he returns in Week 5 but look for him to have better stats closer to 50-60 tackles, and 4 INT’s. Head Coach Bill Belichick must already have a gameplan when Jones returns from his injury.
Jones 2023 Future and Beyond
Depending on how this season goes and no one knows if the league will suspend Jones for his offseason actions, I expect him to be apart of the Patriots’ future for 2024. The team is getting younger in many areas of the offense and defense and Jones will be a fixture of the team as long as no other issues come up between now and then. I am sure this was a big wake-up call in his life and career because if you’re a professional athlete, the last thing you want is issues because many people look up to you as role models.
