The Patriots have one of the more important picks in all of the 2024 NFL draft. With the third overall pick, they are in a position to select a top-tier prospect for the first time in what feels like two decades. Jerod Mayo has a big decision to make in his first season as the head coach.
Pick #3
I think the team’s biggest need is a wide receiver. I don’t think it would make sense to draft a quarterback this high just to throw him onto a very underwhelming offense. With how both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe played this year with experience, I wouldn’t feel very confident having a rookie replace them.
I would like to see Mac Jones get one more chance in the final year of his contract with a difference maker on the outside.
I want to see the Patriots draft Marvin Harrison JR with the 3rd overall pick. Waiting on drafting receivers has haunted us for the last 4 seasons. We need to draft them confidently and proudly. He is the highest-rated player in the draft by CBS. I don’t think anyone would have an issue with adding him to the top of our roster.
Pick #2
Drafting back-to-back receivers in rounds One and Two is something that rarely happens in the NFL if it ever has. There is another player that has caught my attention. His name is Keon Coleman out of Michigan State/Florida State. He is a natural athlete and maybe one of the most athletic players in the draft. He is a two-sport athlete who also played Basketball. I think he would be a great compliment to Harrison JR. Both of these players are listed at 6’4 and over 200 pounds and would rise to the top of the depth chart immediately.
Team Strengths
When looking at this team there is a lot to be excited about. Our defense is very promising. Although Bill Belichick had difficulties building an offense after the departure of Brady, Gronk, and Edelman, I think he built a great defense.
I would like to see one specific defensive player become a Patriot and that is Mike Sainristil. Sainristil is a National Championship winner with the Michigan Wolverines. He is a great all-around player and has a wide variety of skills. He was a leader on that team and a big part of their recent success. He would be a great addition to our already high-performing defense.
Flyer
Something that may surprise some people is that there is another McCaffrey family member in this year’s NFL draft. With how Christian McCaffrey has played this year and throughout his NFL career, the thought of having his younger brother Luke McCaffrey is quite intriguing.
He is a wide receiver but has also played a lot of quarterback in the past. Christian described him as a football player, which is what you want to hear. Oddly enough, being described as a football player is one of the best compliments you can receive playing this sport.
