Another legend has called a career. We’ve seen players like Jason Kelce and Matthew Slater retired this offseason. Now, you can add a defensive tackle to the list. Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald has retired after ten seasons in the National Football League. There is no doubt he will be a Hall-of-Famer once he is eligible in 2029. Let’s look back at his outstanding career.
A Star From The Beginning
Drafted out of the University of Pittsburgh in 2014, Donald stood out from the start. He recorded 48 tackles, nine sacks, and 13 QB hits on his way to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The 10-time Pro Bowler would win the Defensive Player of the Year award three times throughout his career. His most dominant season was no doubt in 2018, where he recorded 20.5 sacks and 25 tackles for loss (leading the league in both categories).
His impact goes beyond statistics. He revolutionized the way defensive tackles are utilized, showcasing a rare blend of power, speed, and pass-rushing technique. His presence forced offensive lines to dedicate extra resources to contain him, freeing up opportunities for his teammates.

The 8-time All-Pro finally got a Super Bowl ring in 2021, an achievement players always dream of accomplishing. His two sacks were pivotal in the team’s victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the Big Game.
A Short, But Great Career
It’s surprising to see Donald call it a career at just the age of 32. But, the statistics he put up and accolades he’s accomplished during the past ten years are enough to call him one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL. With offenses having to account for him on every play with double or triple teams, he’s not your everyday defensive tackle.
The Rams lost a legend into retirement on Friday. Salute to you, Mr. Aaron Donald.
