The New York Giants have around $32 million in cap space. That number has increased thanks to a cost-saving move. It’s been well-known that the team’s offensive line has been an issue for years now. Joe Schoen is entering his third season as the general manager and knows this position group needs major work. His first order of business: cutting Mark Glowinski
A Veteran Released Into Free Agency
Ironically, Glowinski was one of Schoen’s first free-agent additions when hired. He was signed to a three-year, $18.3 million deal before the 2022 season. He played 16 games, showing his dependability and solidified the right guard position for a good amount of time.
He started at guard again in the team’s 40-0 loss to Dallas in week one of 2023. However, it was an up-and-down season in terms of playing time. Glowinski was in and out of the lineup from week nine to the end, showing that continuity and the Giants’ offensive line do not belong in the same sentence.
The 32-year-old hitting the market saves the team $5.7 million in cap space.
As for the rest of the offensive line, questions linger. Ben Bredeson and Justin Pugh remain unsigned, giving the Giants no current answers at the guard position.
Thank you for your service, Mark Glowinski. Best of luck at your next destination.
Drake Maye and Brian Daboll’s Chemistry Already High?
The North Carolina product is one of the options the Giants could draft to save their quarterback woes. It seems like Maye wouldn’t mind being a Giant either.
It’s been noted that he has been in contact with legendary Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning, taking whatever knowledge he can get from the two-time Super Bowl champion. Maye also praised head coach Brian Daboll, calling him one of the best offensive minds in the game.
If Maye falls to the Giants at pick six, it will be a surprise. But, many won’t complain.
Positive News Surrounding Barkley, Giants Reunion
Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants may reunite after all. The two parties had a good meeting with one another before the start of the combine.
Rumors surfaced that the running back was targeting the Houston Texans as a possible destination. However, Barkley would love to stay a Giant for the rest of his career as he has said in the past.
When healthy, the 27-year-old is one of the most explosive players in all of football. Stuck behind a mediocre offensive line and multiple injuries have played a role in declined play compared to his rookie season.
Playing on the franchise tag in 2023, it is to be seen if he will get a long-term deal with the Giants or another team.
