The A’s had a chance to salvage their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox with a win on Wednesday. Unfortunately, despite solid play from the pitching staff, the offense failed to get on the board. A 1-0 loss resulted in the A’s third shutout of the season. It’s only been seven games.
Ross Stripling, Oakland’s starter, was phenomenal against Boston. He allowed just one run on eight hits, striking out three batters, and walked no one. Unfortunately, that lone run gave him the loss at the end of the day. But, it was a bounce-back performance nonetheless.
As for the offense, they mustered up eight hits. But, none of them contributed to any runs crossing the plate. Oakland had a great chance to score in the bottom of the fifth. The bases were loaded with one out, but Zach Gelof grounded into a double play to end any hope.
Boston’s pitching staff got the job done, led by starter Nick Pivetta. He allowed five hits but no runs while striking out three. Their bullpen took care of the rest, and Kenley Jansen got the save for the second straight night.

Play of the Game
Not necessarily a play. However, Boston’s broadcast team deserves praise.
