Explanation Of Picks
Buffalo could use another wideout after losing Gabriel Davis to free agency. Mitchell is an intriguing prospect, standing at 6’4″ with a quick release against defensive backs. He’s a great route runner too, and is a red zone threat if I ever saw one. PFF compares him to Tee Higgins, which is a pretty good one to be honest. After seven touchdowns from 2021-2022, Mitchell recorded 11 touchdowns and 845 yards on 55 catches for Texas last year.
Hicks was my choice in the second round, as the well-built safety is a welcoming addition to a team in need of better play at the position. He sets the tone as a tackler, and can also be used in the slot. A full-time starter in 2023, he isn’t the fastest but has good enough speed to make downhill plays.
Thomas and Boyd were my choices in round four. The former would be a possible replacement for Von Miller on the edge, and at worst would rotate with him on the defensive line. He had four sacks and 32 hurries in 2023 for Clemson. As for the latter, he graded out at 89.0 while shining for Northern Iowa.
Keegan provides depth (and starting potential) at the guard position. Bertrand is a smart linebacker who, despite being undersized, is competitive and tough to where it makes up for that. Against the run, he shows great fundamentals and vision to find and tackle the ball carrier.
My favorite day-three pick is Johnson, who shined last year for the Huskies with his 1,189 yards and 16 touchdowns. Once he finds his blocks, his acceleration shines through. Add in his ability to be a good receiver and pass protector, and he will form a solid 1-2 duo with James Cook in Buffalo.
