Next up in our mock draft series are the Dallas Cowboys. With so many rumors about being Dak Prescott‘s last year with the team, could this be their last chance to win a Super Bowl? Who will they add this year to the core? Let’s find out.
Picks
Explanation
With Tyler Biadasz leaving for the Commanders in free agency, the Dallas Cowboys need a new center ASAP. Enter the best one in the draft, as Powers-Johnson is just dominant at the position with his power and finesse traits. In the run game, he will MOVE people out of the way. He has shown versatility to play across the offensive line but is just the best at center. Dallas has found their long-term replacement.
In the second round, the next position that was addressed was running back. Currently, the depth chart stands at Deuce Vaughn and Rico Dowdle. No, thank you. Enter Jonathon Brooks, who graded at a 91.5 according to PFF in 2023. Despite a torn ACL, he is just a complete back with size, speed, and strength. Add in his ability to change direction on a dime and explosive first step, and the Cowboys have found their long-term replacement at running back (as long as he stays healthy).
I did have Dallas trade a few picks down in the third round, while also nabbing an extra fourth-rounder. I used both picks on the offensive line, drafting Puni and Keegan. The former played both tackle and guard during his time at Kansas, showing the power to disrupt defenders while having them struggle to get around him because of his size. As for the latter, he’s known for being a physical specimen with strong fundamentals and is NFL-ready because of the pro-style offense ran at Michigan.
Day three was filled with adding depth on defense while adding a wide receiver to the mix. Linebacker Jaylan Ford stands out to me, and not because he gets to remain home In Texas. Rather, he’s a solid zone coverage defender with an awareness of routes and quickness to the ball. Though he’s not twitchy or highly athletic, he’ll get onto the field in some capacity.
