The Colorado Rockies are suddenly surging as the calendar turns to June. It has been a fun couple of weeks for Colorado fans as they have shown vast improvement.
The Rockies may have one of the worst records in the National League, but they have played their best against the best in May. They swept the Rangers in Denver and then did the same thing to the Padres on the road. Also, the Rockies took two home series against the Phillies and Guardians This team took out three of the hottest teams in MLB. The lineup and starting pitching have stepped up during this surge.
Rotation Surge In May

They are slowing down good teams because the games are close to the end. Cal Quantrill and Austin Gomber have been the best starters in the Rockies rotation. They both have ERAs below 3.00 and multiple quality starts. Gomber has been amazing giving the Rockies quality starts. Quantrill brought the ability to go deep into games and throw strikes.
This has been one of the better Rockies rotations where everyone is giving good starts. The main issue for Colorado in the early part of the season is the bullpen. However, they did have a 1.98 ERA at the beginning of May. They have struggled to hold down games, especially with a decent lead so that needs to change. It will be interesting to see if the Rockies make some moves to add some reliable late-inning pitchers.
Offense Surging

This first part of the season the offense has struggled at times to score more than two to three runs a game. The offense is finally starting to surge upward with players stepping up. Ryan McMahon arguably has been the best hitter in the lineup with above .300 average, 53 hits, and seven home runs in over 40 games. Brenton Doyle is leading the team with stolen bases and defensive plays at centerfield.
The Rockies have a core of good young players and prospects that are coming up. They are emerging as defenders and hitters such as Sean Bouchard. There have been some injuries to key veteran players that have required the younger players to step up. It will be interesting to see how the Rockies balance the lineup.
The Colorado Rockies have won back-to-back series and twelve of their last nineteen games. There is still a lot of baseball left to play and this is a talented team that will be fun to watch this season. Stay tuned for more MLB news and stories.
