The St. Louis Cardinals are off to a rough start in 2024. They currently have a record under .500 and sit in last place in the NL Central. St. Louis currently has the fourth-oldest roster in all of baseball and they haven’t won a playoff series since 2019. The Cardinals farm system only ranks 23rd in all of baseball with only three prospects ranked inside the top 100. Given what’s happened to the franchise in recent years, St. Louis should consider commencing a rebuild.
The Cardinals Have Struggled In Recent Years

While they’ve made the postseason five times; St. Louis has only won one playoff series and two division titles during that span. In those playoff series, St. Louis has gone an ugly 5-11. St. Louis has also missed the postseason four times in ten years. This included staying home in October for three straight seasons from 2016-2018. Last year, the Cardinals lost over 90 games for the first time since 1990.

They currently sit in last place in the NL Central and are nearly ten games below .500. Despite the offense having talented bats in Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, and Willson Contreras, St. Louis has one of the worst offenses in the league. The Cardinals are only averaging 3.39 runs per game. The only team averaging fewer runs is the Chicago White Sox.
Time To Restock The Farm
The Cardinals have the fourth-oldest roster baseball. The only teams with older rosters are the Mets, Dodgers, and Braves. Nobody on the current roster is untouchable and the Cardinals need more young prospects. St. Louis’s farm system is currently ranked 23rd out of all 30 MLB teams. The only players ranked inside the top 100 are Tink Hence and Tekoah Roby. The Cardinals should look to become a younger team and restock their farm system. This is the only way the Cardinals will be able to build their next championship contender.
The Team Is Currently Bottoming Out

They are the fourth oldest team in baseball and some of the current players are starting to be shells of themselves. The franchise is currently bottoming out and this is something that the organization must recognize. Given the lack of success of this current group, the Cardinals must enter a rebuild.
