The 2024 NASCAR Power Rankings, are seeing some movement in the top ten this week but the lower rankings were all equal or should I say equally unlucky? We were lucky enough to see rain tires again this season in New Hampshire. Even after some questionable decisions made by NASCAR in those closing laps, it was an awesome race. I was happy to see a race finished even on the damp track.
The Bottom Five
- 15. Todd Gilliland
Another top fifteen finish for Todd. Heck, we even saw him running up in the top five a few times in New Hampshire. I love seeing a smaller team over-perform and Todd has been doing that as of recently. How he will do in Nashville, I’m not sure. While that is partially due to his bad history it’s more so due to his recent good performances. He very well probably will be in the top fifteen again this weekend though.
- 14. Chris Buescher
A top-five finish at New Hampshire is just what this team and driver needed after a less-than-stellar finish in Iowa. I like his chances this week in Nashville. Both of the RFK cars looked extremely fast in qualifying.
- 13. Joey Logano
Joey looked like he had a strong car early on in the race. Then on lap 194: something happened that shot Joey’s car into another competitor and effectively ended his day. Joey has an uphill climb to get back above the cut line for the playoffs as well as to climb back up these 2024 NASCAR Power Rankings. I don’t know if Nashville will be that start though.
- 12. Bubba Wallace
This is a driver and team who need some change of luck to occur quickly. He didn’t grab any stage points at New Hampshire and didn’t finish great either(34). Especially after being caught up in a late wreck. They walk away with a top-ten finish and some stage points this week and I think it’s considered a win.
- 11. Brad Keselowski
New Hampshire was abysmal for Brad. It took him almost one hundred laps into the race before he even cracked the top twenty in running order. That doesn’t appear to be the same case at least so far in Nashville. He’ll be starting p5 tomorrow so we’ll see if that was just a blip for Brad.
2024 NASCAR Power Rankings Top Ten Begins
- 10. Martin Truex Jr.
He was another driver who looked strong early on in this past Sunday’s race at New Hampshire. Then once again Lady Luck decided to end that and a right rear tire didn’t get fully secure on an early pit stop and he never recovered. I’m not feeling too high on Martin’s chances this week personally.
- 9. Alex Bowman
Alex was on pace to secure probably a top-ten finish last weekend. Then something unexpected happened for a Hendrick Motorsports powered car, and engine failure occurred. I think we see Alex rebound this weekend, and grab another top-ten finish. Maybe he and his team even make some adjustments tomorrow and contend for a win.
- 8. Ross Chastain
Ross went out and made me look bad for fading him in my portion of last week’s picks piece finishing in the top ten. He won this race last year, so he knows how to win here and it absolutely wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him park it back in victory lane again. Nashville is a slick track and anything can happen.
- 7. Ryan Blaney
Ryan fell a few spots in this week’s edition of the 2024 NASCAR Power Rankings. He had an awesome showing early and looked like he was even going to contend for back-to-back wins. Then he just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and finished 25th. That’s racing though and he will rebound for sure this weekend.
- 6. Tyler Reddick
He finished sixth at New Hampshire and was the leader when the rains initially started to fall. I easily consider Tyler to be one of the top five drivers in the Cup Series from week to week much like Ryan Blaney but these are the best of the best for a reason so competition is tight.
The Top Five
- 5. William Byron
It was a weird day for Willy B after finishing runner-up in Iowa. However, Chevrolet as a team seemed to struggle in New Hampshire so I think we will see William rebound. Especially considering he finished p6 last year.
- 4. Christopher Bell
A weekend sweep, and his third win of the season. C Bell has been on fire as of late, and I’m not so sure that we won’t see him grab one or two more wins before the playoffs start.
- 3. Chase Elliott
So he led 41 laps to open the race in New Hampshire and then went on to grab stage points in both stage one and two. Yes, a p18 isn’t what he wanted but he was involved with Joey Logano’s accident earlier in the race. He did extend their top-twenty finish streak one more week though so there’s that.
- 2. Denny Hamlin
The rain tires went on the eleven-car, and his solid performance disappeared. Beforehand though he was an early contender for the win and even won stage two. Denny put down a fast lap in qualifying earlier today and I fully expect him to be fast tomorrow.
- 1. Kyle Larson
A fourth-place finish on a day where Chevrolets weren’t strong to begin with is nothing to be surprised by. Kyle drives the cars to the absolute furthest he can, and it pays off a lot more than it doesn’t. Considering his worst finish in Nashville is fifth, I expect to see the five-car up front early and often.
Nash-Vegas Here We Come!
I’ve enjoyed that NASCAR has been coming back to Nashville. Even though I would love for the Fairgrounds Speedway to be a trip eventually. I will deal with the SuperSpeedway until then. As to what you should expect?
Well, that’s a difficult one to answer. I think you should look to see some solid racing though either way. As for who I think is going to win or who may be competitive well you know where you can find that piece. Hopefully, we make ya some money if you are a betting fan!
