The Oakland Athletics looked to bounce back from Tuesday’s loss versus the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. Athletics’ starter Joey Estes took the mound, looking to repeat his performance from his last start (5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 5 Ks). Against the Mariners, he was absolutely dominant.
Estes pitched a perfect game all the way to the seventh inning, pulled after allowing one hit but headed into the dugout to a standing ovation. The California kid had five strikeouts, having his way with the Mariners’ lineup all night long.
The offense scored enough to help their starter get his second win of the season. Zach Gelof hit a solo home run to center in the third inning, and Daz Cameron scored on a throwing error in the fifth to help Oakland score the only two runs they needed to win.

Mariners’ starter Logan Gilbert was solid himself, pitching seven innings while striking out five batters. But, the one earned run he was charged with plus the error by his defense was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Seattle’s only run came in the top of the ninth when Julio Rodriguez homered against closer Mason Miller. But the “Reaper” shut things down the rest of the way. He earned his 12th save of the season and the A’s clinched their 25th win of the year.
Both teams were terrible with runners in scoring position, going 0-10 combined. But, Oakland scored enough and the pitching was phenomenal to even the series.
