In recent years, most of the Milwaukee Brewers’ success has been attributed to their pitching staff. During that span, players like Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader, Devin Williams, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta, and others played huge roles in Milwaukee’s success. They certainly were a big reason why the Brewers won the NL Central in two of the past three seasons. Oftentimes, Milwaukee’s offense left a lot to be desired. However, a big reason for Milwaukee’s success this season is because of their offense.

Many People Were Down On The Brewers Going Into 2024

Heading into the season, many people thought that Milwaukee’s contention window had finally shut. Manager Craig Counsell departed, Corbin Burnes was traded, and Brandon Woodruff would for at least most of the season. In spring training, all-star closer Devin Williams suffered a back injury and would miss most of the first half of the season. The only additions the Brewers made in free agency were journeyman Jake Bauers, Joe Ross, Jakob Junis, and Rhys Hoskins. They also brought back Wade Miley and Colin Rea. None of the free agents Milwaukee signed were real “needle movers.” Given the key departures, injuries, and an offense that struggled in 2023, it was easy to be down on the Brewers.

Milwaukee’s Offense Has Surprisingly Been Leading The Way

However, the Brewers are currently in first place in the NL Central by a wide margin. The Brew Crew also have a winning record against teams with a .500 or better record. A big part of the Brewers’ success so far this season has been because of their offense. Milwaukee is currently averaging 4.85 runs per game. The only teams averaging more runs in the National League are the Dodgers, Phillies, and Diamondbacks. Milwaukee is also ranked inside the top three in the National League for hits, walks, stolen bases, batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS.

Milwaukee Is Getting Contributions Up And Down The Lineup

Milwaukee’s success offensively can be attributed to more than one player in the lineup. William Contreras is having an MVP-like year. Brice Turang has come a long way since his rookie year. Willy Adames is on pace to have a career season. Rhys Hoskins is showing why he was one of the Phillies’ most exciting players. Christian Yelich seems to have returned to all-star form. Joey Ortiz, who came over in the Corbin Burnes trade, has cemented himself as part of the future. Gary Sanchez has even given Milwaukee positive contributions as well. It’s safe to say that we should stop doubting Milwaukee whenever someone key departs the team. General Manager Matt Arnold and the Brewers front office always seem to have something up their sleeves.

Anything Is Possible

The Brewers’ success offensively is the reason why they are leading the NL Central by a wide margin. The last time Milwaukee had an offense this explosive was in 2018 when the line-up featured Ryan Braun, Yelich, Jesus Aguilar, and Travis Shaw. The Brewers averaged 4.62 runs a game that year. Not only did they win the division, but the Brew Crew advanced to the NLCS and came within a game of going to the World Series. Milwaukee hasn’t come that close to returning to the World Series since then. However, given how successful the Brewers offense has been in 2024, anything is possible for this team.
