Now that looks like a party, not quite a “Gardy-Party”, but a party nonetheless.
The 2018 New York Yankees team became the first team in Major League Baseball history to hit 267 total home-runs throughout the course of the season, breaking the Seattle Mariners 1997 club that smashed 264 long balls over the wall, with a lineup that included hall of fame hitters like Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez, as well as a young phenom shortstop who went by the name of Alex Rodriguez. With the help from Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Andujar, Didi Gregorius, Gleyber Torres, Luke Voit, Gary Sanchez, Aaron Hicks, Andrew McCutchen, Brett Gardner, Greg Bird, Austin Romine, etc., the Yankees collectively tossed a bottle of jack on the floor, and shattered the Mariners’ record for most long balls in a season.
The team would celebrate at The Yankee Tavern down on 161st street, where they would be greeted by their favorite bartender, Brian O’Cash, himself.
Though, as Cashman served up some cold ones with his fresh Guy Fieri haircut, the Yankees partied way too hard as they would be in for a rude awakening when going up against the Boston Red Sox, who would have their own celebration on 161st street in the Bronx, only they would have there’s the field, after defeating the bombers in Game 4 of the ALDS to advance to the American League Championship Series, eliminating the Yankees in the process.
Ok, that’s not why they lost. They lost because the Boston Red Sox man-handled the Yankees pitching staff, with the exception of Masahiro Tanaka, in the division series, including chasing JA Happ in the 3rd inning in Game 1, Luis Severino in the 4th inning in Game 3, and CC Sabathia in the 4th inning of Game 4. Though the Yankees’ starters couldn’t get it done, the bats went silent as well, with the Yankees only crossing the plate 4 times in 2 games in a stadium in which they were undefeated in the postseason a year prior.
In Game 2, at an unusually quite Fenway Park I might add, Mashahiro Tanaka would be back by 3 jacks over the green monster, off the bats of Aaron Judge (1) and Gary Sanchez (2), leading the way to a convincing 6-2 win over David Price and the Boston Red Sox. When the Yankees hit home-runs, the Yankees win ball games.
In the first 4 series of 2019, the Yankees have already tallied a total of 24 jacks in 12 games played, including 7 shots on Sunday’s 15-3 massacre of the Baltimore Orioles. Though the jacks keep on coming, the Yankees have started out 5-7 after being swept right out of Houston this past week.
With the Chicago White Sox (3-9), Boston Red Sox (3-9), and Kansas City Royals (2-9) all making their way to the Bronx this upcoming week, Brian O’Cash and the Yankees absolutely need to get the tavern booming as they have an opportunity to wipe out three teams who have started out their seasons more poorly than the bombers have. The Botox may be the defending champs, however, they have not played like, giving up the most homers in the league to kick off the season as we’ve seen Chris Sale and Nathan Eovaldi get rocked against the likes of the Mariners and Blue Jays.
The Yankees hit 267 homers in 2018, with a lineup that didn’t have a guy (Aaron Judge) who hit 52 piss-missiles in his rookie season, for nearly 2 months, and though the bombers are short a Big G, a Hicksy, a Miggy, a Tulo and a Sir Didi, this team is still very dangerous with the judge seemingly in mid-season form, the kraken seemingly back to being the best-hitter in the lineup, the red-headed stepchild Clint Frazier hitting the snot out of everything and DJ LeMahieu arguably the best-hitter at the moment.
Though it’s only April 11 (Happy Birthday, Mark Teixeira!), the bombers have struggled to drive in runs using small ball tactics, so with that being said, it’s time to break out the Jack Daniels . Make no mistake about it, the bar will be open for business this weekend in the Bronx!
