With Ken Block retiring from the Lake Superior Performance Rally on SS7 it opened up a whole new set of potentials for the ARA National Championship.
How Can Ken Block Win If Possible
Ken Block can theoretically still win the 2022 American Rally Association National Championship, but it relies on a lot going right for Block. There are two categories this can be broken down into. The first of which being if Block doesn’t return to the Lake Superior Performance Rally on day two. The second is if Block does return on day two of LSPR.
If Block Doesn’t Return On Day Two
If Ken Block can’t rejoin the Lake Superior Performance Rally on day it technically makes it easier for him to win the championship. As Block coming into LSPR would’ve dropped 17 points as long as he got above 17 points at LSPR, which he was set to do. If Block takes home zero points, Block would then gain those 17 points back. Thus putting his point total to 139, which is 23 above Semenuk’s 116. If Block chooses to go this route he will be relying on Semenuk to either make an error or not finish the rally. As chances are Subaru will tell Pastrana to let Semenuk place ahead of him. Which would likely mean Semenuk finishes the rally first, taking home 22 points. If this were to happen Semenuk would only need to take home two points on the power stage. If Semenuk were to finish the rally second overall he wouldn’t be able to win the championship. As he would only be able to take home 21 points from the event.
If Block Returns On Day Two
If Ken Block returns on day two of LSPR it will make things slightly more complicated. As there are about a dozen potential endings for the rally. If Block rejoins the rally on day two he will start the rally in 11th place nationally. Thus only giving Block two Championship points. Chances are Block will be able to push back for a top 10 spot. With the highest likely spot Block being able to achieve in 35 stage miles is fifth place. Which would give him 10 championship points. Giving Block the potential to take home 15 points from the event. Thus meaning Block would drop 15 points instead of 17, putting his point total to 139. From here it’s just the same as the above category for the potentials.
