Mason Saunders, or as you might know him, Madison Bumgarner, has been (secretly) competing in rodeos for the past few years. After an offseason of scandals and scumbags, this was a welcome headline late Sunday night.

Two-Sport Star

Deion and Bo played baseball and football professionally. Their names are synonymous with two-sport athletes in the US. Little did we know, one of the most dynamic athletes in MLB history was roping steer and drinkin’ beer down in Arizona. MadBum even had a few wins under his belt, including a doubles win in which he and partner Jaxson Tucker topped the #12.5 Big Gamble and took home $25,560. I don’t know, or care, what that means but we should all be applauding it. Speaking of which, it’s probably time that Bumgarner, 30, adopts Jared Allen’s lasso celebration after every strikeout.

The only, and I mean ONLY, people that are allowed to be upset are Diamondbacks fans and I don’t even really believe they should have an issue with this. Yes, Bumgarner signed a five-year, $85 million contract this offseason. Yes, he’s missed time in the past due to off the field activities. But this is the rodeo, baby. 11 seasons in San Francisco included 4 all-star appearances and three World Series titles. That earned Mason Madison a little time on horseback, yeah? As for the alias, Bumgarner told USA Today it was to protect the world of roping more than it was to hide his participation.

The mystery of it all is enough to keep even casual fans like me intrigued. Better yet, the promotional opportunities will live forever. Bumgarner/Saunders bobblehead night – half baseball attire, half denim jacket, shirt, and jeans. Baseball hats under cowboy hats, and of course, adding a miniature roping event to the seventh-inning stretch.

On the mound, Bumgarner is a hero. On the saddle Mason Saunders is a legend.

Can you explain why theres a random Vikings Tweet inserted in the story?

Because it’s Jared Allen’s sack celebration that was mentioned the sentence immediately before that.

I get thats his celebration, it would be nice to have a video where you could actually see it. This video Just shows Kevin Williams blocking the celebration
