The popular and long running video game “Madden NFL” has been around since 1988. Madden himself announced the game for 15 years, from “John NFL 94” until “Madden NFL 09”. In the time that John Madden was announcing the video game, he worked with real game day commentators Pat Summerall and Al Michaels.
Since Madden retired from commentary, the Madden game franchise has seen several different commentators like Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond for Madden 09 and 10. Collinsworth then stayed as the color commentator for Madden 11-12, while Gus Johnson did the play by play, replacing Hammond. Madden 13 was the debut of CBS Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, who stayed until Madden NFL 16. From Madden 17 on, Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis have been doing the commentary.
Charles Davis and Brandon Gaudin have been my least favorite duo in the game as commentators, while my favorites have been John Madden, Al Michaels, and Pat Summerall.
In my opinion, it would be great if there were multiple commentators that you had an option to select from. Let’s say you pick your team and on the screen where you select the teams uniforms, playbook, you could choose a custom commentator option such as CBS, NBC, FOX or ESPN commentators.
The EA Madden franchise should try to do everything they can to get Tony Romo and Jim Nantz (CBS), Joe Buck and Troy Aikman (FOX), Chris Collinsworth and Al Michaels (NBC), and (even though nobody seems to like them) Jason Witten, Booger McFarland, and Joe Tessitore (ESPN) to do commentary in the next Madden game coming out in August 2019.
Though it would be expensive, EA can afford it. Madden is a billion dollar game thanks in large part to the Madden Ultimate Team (MUT), Madden 19 sold more than 788,000 copies in its first week of release, so they could easily afford to pay other commentators to give the game a nice twist instead of hearing the same two guys talk every game you play.
EA makes changes to the game with each yearly release. Though it would take many hours and a lot of money, I think an update for the next Madden game that allows players to choose their commentators would be a huge hit and that many players, including myself, would enjoy it.
