This is a story that I feel isn’t getting enough attention from people out there. Maybe because it involves a player that plays in the far away land of Seattle, or perhaps people are really feeling tingly getting in deep with draft prospects, or maybe it’s because Antonio Brown is acting like the first extremely unimpressive image of a black hole and is sucking in everybody’s lives. Hard to say, but what isn’t hard to say is that this Russell Wilson telling the Seahawks that need to extend his contract by April 15 is something that doesn’t happen all to often especially with guys with the gee golly whiz personality of Russ Wilson.

Now to most folks, including myself, the easy answer that i fully expect to happen is that Wilson will get signed long term to Seattle. It might not be on tax day, but at some point, the Seahawks will lock up the most important player in their team’s history. They simply can’t seriously believe that they can succeed long term without him mainly because Wilson is only 30 years old and is playing at very high level. He’s also in what most, I believe, would consider his prime. Brady is still playing at bizarrely high level at 42, so thinking that Wilson can’t be a top 5 or better QB in this league for the next 5 years is a fool’s game. He’s thrown for 69(nice) TDs and only 18 INTs the past two years with basically no one to throw to except Doug Baldwin, when he isn’t hurt. That, and all the plays he makes with his legs when does his best Tebow impersonation and spins around like a dozen times only to escape the entire defense and find a wide open receiver who’s exhausted because they had to run around for 40 seconds makes Wilson staying in Seattle a sure thing, right?

But, it should be said, that we live in a different sports world now in 2019 where players, especially rising in the NFL, are starting to do extreme things to get what they want. Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell obviously come to mind. Can their actions start a snowball effect where players start calling the shots on where they want to go and how much money they want to get paid in the NFL? Probably a little bit, but I don’t think Wilson will be one of those guys who starts getting unruly and dying his mustache blonde. I also don’t think this will lead him to holdout for the year or for any meaningful amount of time. The ball is in the Seahawks court, and they know it. They can gamble and sit on Wilson another year and sign him then, if they choose. I don’t think they’ll do that. I think they’ll get a deal done around when the year begins and all will be well in the Emerald City.

So, to all you out there getting all happy trying to come up with possible trade scenarios involving Wilson, have a real good time with that. To everyone else, enjoy the weekend.

BTW- I’d love to live in a world where Wilson turns heel and does hold out and just starts losing his mind like Mr. Big Chest. Wilson, who’s thought of as a heck of a nice guy, just calling out the Seahawks brass and taking a nifty dump all over the 12th Man would be a sight to see. It would blow the roof off places that don’t even have roofs, that’s how awesome it be. I can only imagine what it would look like.
