New York Jets newly acquired kicker, Chandler Catanzaro decided to retire after Thursday’s rough outing. He also had a rough camp, as well as shanking two extra points on Thursday night. Catanzaro is only 28 years old, and I have seen him making a team’s roster this year pretty easily. Jets kicker retires after a rough game.
Career Accolades
Catanzaro did not have a bad career by any standard. He did lack accuracy at times, but he managed to get it done when he was called upon, typically. The ‘Catman’ made his 83.8% of his career field goals. In 2016 he did make a 60-yard field goal, as well as a 59-yard field goal in last year. The final stat line for him is 119 made field goals out of 142 attempts. Catanzaro always had a knack for coming in clutch during big situations especially during overtime, such as last year versus the Cleveland Browns in Tampa Bay.
College
In college, he played for the Clemson Tigers, and he was about the same in college as he was in the NFL. Catanzaro completed 81.7% percent of his field goals which translates to 67 made of his 82 attempts. He played all four years of his college career. Catanzaro was always the go-to guy under pressure in college, that didn’t seem to translate as well into his pro career. But he showed sparks of it.
Turning The Page
With Chandler Catanzaro retiring the Jets have signed a new kicker, Taylor Bertolet. He played for a few different NFL teams throughout his career. His college ball was played at Texas A&M. Before this NFL chapter, he played in Salt Lake City, Utah and is now an alumnus of the now-defunct AAF (Alliance of American Football), where he played on the Salt Lake Stallions. Bertolet went 9/14 on his field goal attempts.
I wish Chandler Catanzaro the best in his future endeavors. Myself, I would not be surprised to see him in the new XFL football league run by WWE head, Vince McMahon. I feel like Catanzaro may just want a clean slate elsewhere. But had to retire and wait it out. Now, that’s news, Jets kicker retires after a rough game.
