Entering Tuesday night’s contest between the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets, New York was only two games back of Chicago for the second wild card spot in the National League. Marcus Stroman took the mound for the Mets once again.
He pitched six innings and gave up seven hits and four runs. Stroman also walked two batters and struck out seven in a 5-2 loss. New York is now three games back for the second wild card spot.
Marcus Stroman was acquired in a trade from the Toronto Blue Jays near the trade deadline for pitching prospects, the left-handed pitcher Anthony Kay and right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson.
At that time, the New York Mets were not within striking distance for a playoff spot. And guess what they are in striking distance now. With that being said, Stroman has not proven himself yet in big time games with this team.
He is loved inside the clubhouse and Marcus Stroman is someone you want to be around with.
In five games pitched with New York, his record is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA. In 25.2 innings pitched, he has given up 31 hits and 15 runs. Stroman has walked 12 batters and has struck out 25.
He gave up two monster two-run homers in the game on Tuesday night in the fifth-inning by Addison Russell and in the sixth-inning by Javier Baez.
Marcus Stroman will still have one more season with the New York Mets after this season. He could be the fifth best pitcher in this rotation right now. Stroman was supposedly the best pitcher on Toronto’s staff.
He is 28 years old and is a ground ball pitcher. It didn’t seem like Marcus Stroman produced a ton of ground balls on Tuesday night.
There must have been a reason why teams like the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros did not want him.
Stroman is from the New York area and he played baseball at one point in time with Steven Matz. I don’t think Marcus Stroman is scared of playing under the big lights. Stroman’s biggest issue might be he is too pumped up every time he takes the mound and maybe he just needs to calm down.
