Could it be? Have the prayers of every Redskins fan been heard at last? NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports on Saturday morning that Team President Bruce Allen is on the hot seat. Let’s take a look at the reasons for hashtag Fire Bruce Allen.
Now for any normal franchise, Allen would have been gone a long time ago, as the Redskins close in on 100 losses in his 10-year tenure, however, in Washington, this is shocking news.
Brucifer is team owner Daniel Snyder’s best friend and drinking buddy. Until now he has been considered untouchable.
Compiling a horrific 44-79 record as an executive, Allen is the poster child for kissing up to the boss. From #FireBruceAllen on Twitter, to sell the team chants at home games, it’s clear fans want change. But those chants have fallen on deaf ears until now. As the fanbase turns toward apathy, it seems ol Danny boy is ready to listen.
Why it took this long for Allen to be on the hot seat is baffling. Under Allen the Redskins have made the playoffs twice, losing both times in the 1st round. They have let good players walk like Preston Smith. They have signed mediocre talent to way too much money such as Paul Richardson. Washington has pretty much been a bottom feeder team for his entire 10 years. If you take away that magical RG3 rookie year, his entire tenure has been mostly forgettable. From their afternoon golf games to giving Bruce control over the teams in-game challenges, Snyder’s affection for Allen has been cancer to the Redskins.
This organization is ready for wide-scale changes, but it finally seems like the owner is ready too. And that should give all Washington fans hope that maybe things can turn around. But it should also be taken with some skepticism as all Redskins fans know that misery is always a Jim Zorn away.
