How do you settle a matter between the strongest women on your roster? That’s easy! Just throw them into one of the craziest and diabolical matches ever! The NXT women are heading to WarGames!
NXT General Manager William Regal confirmed this past Wednesday that the first-ever Women’s WarGames match will take place at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
A simple solution
Mark Wednesday, October 30, 2019, as another stepping stone in the Women’s Evolution! The chaos ensued right after the WWE Women’s Tag Team title match. After suffering a crush defeat, Daokta Kai (with green mist in her eyes) and Tegan Nox remained in the ring. They immediately received some unwanted company in the form of NXT Champion Shayna Baszler and her fellow Horsewomen Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke. With Kai rendered helpless, Nox charged after the trio but the numbers game quickly caught up with her.
The Horsewomen received a surprise of their own when Rhea Ripley’s music hit. Duke and Shafir continued to brawl with Nox outside of the ring while Baszler and Ripley remained focused on one another. Just as Ripley approached the ring, Io Shirai attacked her from behind. Rhea got the quick upper hand but it didn’t last long when Bianca Belair joined the festivities. The 2-on-1 assault became an even playing field when Candice LeRae came down and took out Io.
The madness continued for a few more minutes until referees and security went down to the ring to restore order. It wasn’t long after that when Regal appeared and offered his ‘simple’ solution to the madness – WarGames!
The history of WarGames matches
The main format of a WarGames match is two or three teams, with at least 3-5 wrestlers on each team, locked in a cage that covers not one, but two rings. One competitor from each team starts the match with a new participant, alternating between teams, entering the ring every two minutes. This continues until all team members are inside the structure. Winner is determined by either pinfall or submission. In addition, if a team member successfully escapes the cage, their whole team would be disqualified.
NWA first introduced the WarGames match format, and WCW later held these matches annually. NXT re-introduced the WarGames match in 2017.
We know that this type of a match can be unpredictable. Now that the NXT women are heading to WarGames, it brings it to a whole new level! If the action is anything remotely close to what we saw on Wednesday, the NXT universe is in for a real treat!
