You know, when you’re an NFL GM and Larry David is better at your job, it’s probably time to start thinking about alternative careers.
Larry David, through all film study and All 22 that I’m sure he did, knew that Lamar Jackson was the right pick for the Jets and former GM Mike Maccagnan laughed at him (ironic right?) and sent him on his way. The Jets drafted a guy who sees ghosts like he’s in Super Mario 3 and Lamar Jackson is about to become the MVP.
Actually, it’s probably best that the Jets didn’t draft Lamar Jackson because they brought Adam Gase in. This means that Gase would never have figured out how to use Jackson properly. By now, Jackson would have been benched and stories would be out there of how Gase thinks Jackson is a moron for not understanding his system. There probably would be a story about how Jackson and Gase had a verbal shouting match at practice.
This is pretty much how the Adam Gase cycle works. Anybody that has the slightest bit of attitude, who happens to be really good, he gets into it with them because Gase can’t live in a world where one of his players questions his nonsense. Ultimately, Gase would have gone to management and try to have Jackson traded.
Larry David’s rundown on Gase is also spot on. When Gase was in Miami, it was irritating and blatantly obvious that Gase wore a hat just so he can bury himself in at the after-game presser.
This is Gase tricking his brain into thinking everything is alright and that no one can see him after his team got their doors blown off probably due to something stupid he did. It’s like Julian from Big Daddy putting on the magic sunglasses.
So until Gase becomes comfortable with himself and lets that bald head of his fly (as a fellow bald guy I highly suggest it) expect more awkwardness and losing from Adam Gase.
By the way, how cool would it be to see Larry David in the Jets’ War Room on draft night? Like how Kramer would go to his caddy for all the answers, the Jets brass go to Larry David on who to select. He already knows how to play the role of a billionaire owner of a New York franchise. Is it really a stretch for him to go in and play the role of a GM for a New York franchise? I think not.
