The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is in the books. While many of the picks went as expected, many others left us wondering that ever so popular three-letter question: WTF? Did the Seattle Seahawks make the correct pick to help them reach the big game again? Let’s examine their choice.
For only the fifth time since and including 2012, Seattle drafted in the first round, selecting linebacker Jordyn Brooks, from Texas Tech. What is the actual fill in the blank, Seattle? You have a need for linemen on both sides of the ball, and you use your first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft on a linebacker.
Seattle Seahawks 2020 NFL Draft Round 1 Recap/Jordyn Brooks highlights
I get that he was all-conference each season he played college ball. I get that he was second-team all-American as a senior. But good god, linebacker was not one of the top three needs of this football team.
Perhaps I will be proven wrong in the coming seasons. I do hope I am. I absolutely hate this pick at this point in the draft. My previous article had me wanting them to take a defensive lineman with the pick. I had wanted them to choose Ross Blacklock from TCU. Brooks does seem to be a tackling machine with great ball skills, and that will help.
However, one of their top needs is a pass rusher. They had two of the top available rushers to choose from. AJ Epenesa (Iowa) and Yetur Gross-Matos (Penn St) were both still available, as was Blacklock. This Seahawks fan hopes they choose a rusher on day two of the 2020 NFL Draft.
