Jon Moxley Speaks
Jon Moxley hasn’t been seen on AEW Dynamite since retaining his world championship against Jake Hager a few weeks back. That was Moxley’s first title defense of his reign and he has now cleanly swept every member of the Inner Circle.
What will Moxley have to say tonight? The future of the AEW championship could go in any direction at this point. As of last Friday, Cody is the No. 1 ranked contender at the moment. Because he isn’t allowed to compete for the world championship, the next highest ranked contender is AEW Tag Team champion, Kenny Omega. It wouldn’t make sense to have a tag champion contend for the world title, so the next highest ranked wrestler in Darby Allin, who is competing in the TNT championship tournament tonight.
Allin and Moxley squared off this past November on Dynamite. While Moxley scored the victory, Allin looked like a bigger star coming out of the match.
Could this be the direction of the AEW world championship? We’ll find out tonight when Jon Moxley addresses the world tonight on Dynamite.
TNT Tournament Semi-Finals
Both semi-final matches for the TNT championship tournament take place tonight on AEW Dynamite.
On the left-side of the bracket, Darby Allin takes on Cody. These two have squared off on multiple occasions over the past year. The first, at Fyter Fest, the match that put Allin on the map at AEW. They’ve also squared off on the New Year’s edition of AEW Dynamite.
This is the only singles championship Cody can contend for, he cannot let the opportunity slip through his fingers to capture his first singles title in his company. Allin on the other hand, is perfect to be the inaugural TNT champion. He’s an AEW star and the company wants him to shine, but could bigger plans be in store for Allin?
On the right-side, we have Lance Archer going one-on-one with Dustin Rhodes.
Archer has gone on an undefeated streak since debuting on AEW Dynamite, and it doesn’t seem as if he’s stopping anytime soon. A Dustin versus Cody final is too perfect and Archer is the right man to foil the tournament for everyone.
Cody and Archer exchanged words several weeks ago before the start of the tournament. Week by week this match seems more likely. If both men can pick up the victory tonight, there will be a hype around next week I feel would equal that of a Cody/Dustin rematch. It would cap off an impressive starting run for Archer if he can win this tournament.
