As we all know, the New York Giants have struggled to find their franchise quarterback since the retirement of Eli Manning. They recently drafted Daniel Jones in 2019. But, he has struggled to live up to expectations. It goes to show there is a GIANT problem at the quarterback position for Big Blue.
Currently, the Giants still are looking for a new general manager and a head coach. Regardless of who fills those positions, they will have to decide if they will enter next season with Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback.
Let’s explore the options that are on the table.
Keep Daniel Jones as a New York Giant
Drafted sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants expected Daniel Jones to step in and fill the void left by Eli Manning. However, his career has been an up and down ride. There have been glimpses where he looks like a franchise quarterback. But, there have been other instances where he makes boneheaded decisions that drive all Giants fans crazy.

In all, Jones has been a shaky performer at the quarterback position for the Giants. He’s struggled to stay healthy, having not completed a full season at all during his career. His consistent turnovers and mediocre play have many fans wondering if drafting Jones was a mistake.
However, let’s think about Jones’ supporting cast throughout his career thus far. He’s has had to deal with the unavailability of Saquon Barkley, terrible coaching, a receiving core that teams don’t fear, and a terrible offensive line.
The uncertainty of what Jones can do if his supporting cast was better could lead the Giants organization to give him another year to prove himself. With two picks in the first round, Big Blue can draft certain prospects that will help the former Duke quarterback succeed. Whether it’s an offensive lineman or wide receiver, it’s up to the team to make the correct decision.
He isn’t Lamar Jackson, but Daniel Jones is an underrated dual-threat quarterback. He can scramble for first downs, and he can throw the deep ball with precision. Surrounding him with better offensive linemen and wide receivers could allow Jones to show fans why he was deserving of being chosen sixth overall in 2019.
Don’t Keep Him as a Giant
As mentioned, Jones has struggled to keep his turnovers to a minimum throughout his career. With the team searching for a new general manager and head coach, they may want to handpick their own quarterback to start this rebuild. There are a few routes they can go with this option.
One route is to find a quarterback in free agency. This isn’t the most appealing option, but taking a chance on someone like Marcus Mariota or Jacoby Brissett is realistic. They can serve as a bridge quarterback if the Giants decide they do not like any of the quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. After all, Bryce Young could fall into their lap once he’s eligible for the draft in 2023.
Another route is finding a quarterback through the draft. There are some appealing options this year, including Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett. Whoever the new head coach is, having fresh blood as their starter would be like a breath of fresh air.
Finally, there’s the trade route. Players such as Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson have been linked to the Giants, and having one or the other would be a solid choice. In terms of Watson, his legal issues are currently being resolved. But once they are, his talent will be a dangerous weapon for a Giants team that lacks firepower on the offensive side of the ball.
In all, the New York Football Giants have different routes they can take if they decide to replace Jones. This organization is currently in the middle of a house cleaning, and replacing your starting quarterback is a potential part of the master plan.
