We’re four games into the NFL season, and somehow… the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos have the same record. Both teams are 2-2, and neither team is performing the way we expected heading into the 2022 season. The Seahawks are incredibly competitive, while the Broncos look woefully underwhelming. Russell Wilson, who was once considered one of the best quarterbacks in the game, was expected to uplift Denver into championship contention. Meanwhile, Geno Smith was supposed to lead the Seahawks to the no.1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
There’s still the possibility those things could happen, but for now, it seems unlikely. What’s even more surprising outside of how the teams are performing is how their respective quarterbacks have looked. Taking a look at the numbers, Geno Smith has outplayed Russell Wilson through four games.
Russell Wilson through 4 games this season: 80-of-131 (61.1%), 980 passing yards, 4 TD, 1 INT.

Geno Smith through 4 games this season: 102-of-132 (77.3%), 1,037 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT.
Credit to Geno. He’s been excellent.
To add context to Wilson’s numbers, two of his four touchdown passes came against the Raiders. So through three games, Russell Wilson had only thrown two touchdown passes. Not exactly the standard he had set after ten glorious years with the Seahawks. Given that Geno Smith is not only outplaying him but even having the same record as him, it adds even more salt to the wound. Many feel the Seahawks are vindicated in trading away the greatest quarterback in their franchise history, given how the season’s panning out thus far.
While I think it’s a fun thought experiment, four games out of 17 isn’t enough of a sample size. Not to mention, who cares! The Seahawks aren’t supposed to be winning games!!!!
THIS IS A TANKING YEAR PEOPLE!
I wrote an article recently about how, in my opinion, Geno Smith is playing a tad too well for the Seahawks to get the no.1 overall pick. And after throwing for 320 yards, two touchdowns, and completing 77% of his passes, it’s clear he didn’t read my article. I’m starting to believe that Geno Smith has amnesia and forgot who he’s been for the past nine years. Before this season, Geno Smith was widely considered a low-end starter to a high-end backup. This season, however, Geno Smith is playing like a top-ten quarterback, and it has to stop!
The Seahawks desperately need to draft a franchise quarterback. Given the rough shape of some other teams around the league, the Seahawks can’t afford to fall out of the top five. So, from this moment forward, I need the Seahawks to lose at least eight more games before they win one. To be in a prime position to draft a good quarterback, the Seahawks need to secure double-digit losses with games to spare. If they can do that, I’ll be more than happy!
To reiterate, though, I am very happy for Geno Smith that he’s having success this season. It’s been one of the feel-good stories this season, and as much as I’d like it to last, I wish it were happening on a different team. Shoutout to the Seahawks, though! They’ve drastically exceeded my expectation thus far.
