Scouting Notes
- Great eyes into the backfield.
- Insane athleticism and agility are visible on tape.
- Culture setter and leader.
- Effort is relentless and undeniable.
- Good length but uses it poorly.
- Extends way too far over his feet and loses his power and balance.
- Got completely blocked up many times. He was often the last defender to break past his blocker, even in 1-on-1 situations versus inferior talent.
- Played on the interior and on the edge, neither was a great fit.
- Plays hot and undisciplined, causing him to miss tackles.
- Had his 2 worst games going up against the two most prominent opponents on his schedule – Ohio State and Wisconsin.
Short Summary
Adetomiwa Adebawore is a surging prospect with polarizing traits. He has worked himself into fringe 1st-round consideration, and he earned every bit of it. I don’t think his tape deserves that kind of hype, but his traits and efforts absolutely put him there.
On tape, Adebawore showed great athleticism, but a poor ability to play the position, any D-Line position. He is too short for the edge, and he looked small against some of the taller Tackles he went up against. He also desperately needs to refine his pass-rush arsenal. On the interior, despite his surprising bulk for his short stature, he lacks the functional strength to be a consistent force on the interior.
It’s safe to say, he was nowhere near 1st-round talk after watching his tape, but at the Senior Bowl, he turned a lot of heads. He was dominant, and consistently won with refined pass-rush moves, perfectly timed hand strikes, and plenty of functional strength. He seemed to have corrected all of his flaws.
An athlete like that, with the mentality and effort he displayed, showing the improvement and dominance he did, definitely warrants 1st-round hype.
Scouting Card Key
- Age refers to the age of the player come draft night, rounded to the nearest half-age.
- Percentage numbers in the Player Info and Combine Stats sections – This refers to the percentile that number belongs to among all players at his position, going back nearly a decade.
- GP – Games Played
- TFLs – Tackles for Loss
- FF – Forced Fumbles.
- PRS – Pressures.
- PR Grade – Pass Rush Grade.
- IDL Snap% – Percentage of snaps played on the defensive interior (between the tackles).
- EDGE Snap% – Percentage of snaps played on the defensive edge (over or outside the tackle). This stat generally points to the athletic ability and positional dominance of a player. The more capable he is, the more time his coaches will plan for him to be on the edge.
- Double Team – The ability to be successful even when double-teamed. Playing on the interior, this won’t be a rare occurrence, and it’s crucial that players don’t get completely shut down. Of course, this is all relative, as it’s expected to be mostly unsuccessful in those situations.
