Scouting Notes
- Lives up to the challenge, played his absolute best against Quentin Johnston.
- Quick redirection.
- High energy with white-hot motor.
- Exceptionally strong, tough and powerful.
- Erratic and unrefined.
- Not sticky in man, and poor spacing in zone.
- Got beat by route breaks constantly.
- Doesn’t get his head around well when the ball is in the air.
Short Summary
Julius Brents is a true headliner in this draft class, having one of the best RAS scores in the Draft, and one of the best ever at 9.99. That being said, his athleticism is greatly exaggerated. As he displayed at the Combine, he isn’t exceptionally fast, and as he displayed on tape, he isn’t phenomenally quick. His jumps were outstanding, especially at his size (which is a huge contributor to his RAS), but that doesn’t mean as much to me as speed and the tape.
He is a big corner, who plays with high energy, and is a great athlete, so teams will naturally gravitate in his direction. He’ll even draw some comparisons to Tariq Woolen, who was an NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year finalist. Still, he isn’t as explosive as the numbers may show, and he is very raw.
He has the potential to be a great player, but that is far from a sure thing.
