- Great lateral mobility and twitch to stay in front of agile pass rushers.
- Isn’t always accurate with the initial block engagement, but has amazing recovery when he isn’t.
- Mauler mentality.
- Amazing head fake, very polished route-running.
- Got thrown aside a few times, hand placement isn’t always advantageous.
Short Summary
Michael Mayer was one of the most complete TE recruits already out of High School, and he didn’t disappoint in College, only building on his momentum and improving. Mayer is complete in every aspect of the game. His blocking is superb. As a receiver, he is as good a threat as most. He hardly ever makes mistakes or doesn’t complete his on-field assignment perfectly. He is the most complete and polished prospect in this draft.
He’s not all perfect though, as his athleticism is average. He isn’t an explosive athlete and won’t blow you away with speed or quickness. Still, at the position he plays, Michael Mayer is as clean a prospect as they come, and worth a high draft pick. He is near the top of my Big Board, as he is on many others.

- Age refers to the age of the player come draft night, rounded to the nearest half-age.
- Percentage numbers in the Player Info and Combine Stats sections – This refers to the percentile that number belongs to among all players at his position, going back nearly a decade.
- Percentiles in the Advanced Stats portion for cumulative stats are snap-adjusted. In other words, naturally, a player with more snaps will allow more sacks. Therefore, the percentiles are calculated using the snap-adjusted number, rather than the straight-forward total.
- PBLK Grade – PFF Pass Block Grade.
- RBLK Grade – PFF Run Block Grade.
- Block% – The percentage of a player’s snaps he was a designated blocker, as opposed to a receiver.
- Drop% – Drop rate, or the percentage of overall targets that were dropped.
- CTT, CTC% – Contested Targets & Contested Catch Rate.
- Y/RR – Yards per route run.
- Drive – Leg drive, or the ability to not only hold your ground as a blocker, but to drive the defender backwards.
- Radius – Catch radius size and usage.
