No Limit Boxing / PBC: Showtime PPV: Gold Coast Convention Centre; Broad Beach, Australia

Boxing fans want something badly, and it’s something that is deserved. Fighting for one name atop a division is high level chess. Let’s fight for undisputed once again. And this time it’ll be a hungry Jermell Charlo wanting his WBO strap back that was stripped from him for fighting Canelo Alvarez. It’ll also be the official WBO champion Tim Tszyu looking to grab all the other belts off of “Iron Man”. There is no other fight that makes sense. And in the words of Tszyu:

“Charlo… where you at… where you at buddy… come get it”.

“The Soul Taker” early on was being economical with his punches against the gritty Brian Mendoza. He spent time making his reads on the American. But if not for the chin of Mendoza, the fight would have ended a lot earlier than the 116-111, 116-112, 117-111 unanimous decision. While Mendoza’s chin and footwork held up for the full 12-rounds (first-time he’s gone the distance); Tszyu’s just a better all around fighter.

Tszyu’s jab was pinpoint, and had his uppercuts working. With Mendoza keeping his hands low and staying along the ropes Tszyu controlled distance. And once Tszyu realized he could walk through Mendoza’s power shots it was all but over. Even though Mendoza kept throwing.

Let’s Fight For Undisputed Again

So how does that fight look? With how things have played out it’s almost a good thing that the fight got scratched when Charlo got injured. There’s so much more of a story line now. No matter how you feel Charlo fought against Alvarez, he comes out a better overall fighter. A high tide raises all ships as they say. Canelo raises Charlo’s ability. He now knows what it takes if he wants to in the future shoot for greatness again.

Tszyu can get hit. He got clipped at times by Mendoza. And Charlo can hit harder, so Tszyu’s chin will be tested. Charlo might not have the footwork that Mendoza has, so it’ll concievably turn into a phone booth fight. Then as they say all bets are off, because at the top of any division anyone can put anyone to sleep. But make no mistake… putting Charlo away, especially a focused one is a hard task. If Tszyu is defensively sound he may be able to take a decision.
