Michelob Ultra Arena: Las Vegas
Well, PBC Boxing’s journey on SHOWTIME PPV has officially come to an end. And in it’s final act, it put a stamp on what now absolutely must happen in 2024… on whatever network. After the dismantling of Demetrius Andrade by David Benavidez, it would be a travesity of justice should Canelo Alvarez fight anyone else than Benavidez. And this is how the battle of the two-stars would go.
IT WOULD BE A RIDICULOUS FIRE-FIGHT!!
Benavidez has been hunting for that fight for a while now. Then again a fight with Alvarez is something just about everyone wants. After polishing off Caleb Plant, if you look at the Andrade fight as a final exam, Benavidez passes. But there still is a little more polishing on his part that can be done if we are being honest.
Andrade’s awkward style took Benavidez a hot minute to break down and make adjustments. Andrade had early success landing multiple combinations. And if those were coming from Alvarez the results might be a tad different.
Fighters at 168 that might have a claim like Jaime Munguia and David Morrell don’t have the draw that Benavidez does. The fight could be looked at as a sort of passing the torch. Yes, Alvarez is far from washed, however; it would cement the next in line of outstanding Mexicans. And Benavidez although hasn’t done crazy numbers, has proved with the hunger for this, he can hold up his end of a super ppv.
How The Battle Of The Two Of Them Would Look
If looking to nit-pick a habbit that Benavidez has that can be his undoing, it’s that he’ll fight squared up. It puts a large target on himself, but helps him go side-to-side. He has a diverse arsenal, solid hand speed, a chin, and he’s younger.
Alvarez won’t have to chase after Benavidez. The 26-year old will bring the fight to the future Hall-Of-Famer. The problem there is Alvarez has a chin like a boulder, and is one of the greatest counter strikers ever. And has amazing defense.
The real chance Benavidez has to flip the boxing world on it’s ear is early. While Alvarez is making his in-ring reads. Because if Benavidez sees just a small opening, he’s going to be applying massive pressure. Both in close and at range.
