The Chicago Bears left the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis with more excitement than ever about quarterback Caleb Williams. Who can blame them, as they have the number one overall pick and can easily draft the future star quarterback in the first round? But, with that said, they can’t just let incumbent Justin Fields ride the bench. So, they will have to trade the former first-round pick away. Where are the best fits for Fields?
Pittsburgh Steelers
Reports suggest Tomlin is a big fan of Fields’ skillset. The Steelers have a solid offensive line and talented young receivers like Diontae Johnson and George Pickens who could thrive with Fields’ strong arm. The Steelers haven’t found a long-term solution at quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger‘s retirement. Guys like Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett have tried to fill the void but not with much success. Fields’ mobility and dual-threat ability could add a new dimension to the Steelers’ offense.
The only concern is the team’s offensive line. While improved, it could still use more work, and the AFC North is a tough division with strong defenses.
Atlanta Falcons
Why not come home? Spending his days of college at the University of Georgia, Atlanta would finally have their franchise guy to replace Desmond Ridder, who has been underwhelming so far. The Falcons have a talented young receiving core with Drake London and Kyle Pitts. Justin Fields would have options to target and could help unlock the offense’s full potential. Add in Bijan Robinson in the backfield, and this will be one of, if not the, most dangerous QB-RB duos in the NFL.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have explosive offensive weapons in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Fields’ arm talent could unlock their full potential and create a dynamic passing attack. Geno Smith isn’t getting any younger despite the team promising him he will be on the roster in 2024.
A dark horse candidate, Fields would give the team an even better chance to make some noise in the NFC West and contend for a wild card spot. With Kenneth Walker III in the backfield, this offense becomes more dangerous with Fields under center.
Instead of looking for a quarterback in the draft, why not take advantage and trade for a high-potential guy like Fields?
Final Thoughts
The best landing spot for Justin Fields will depend on the specific trade package offered and the team’s overall vision. However, any team that acquires him is taking a gamble on a talented young quarterback with a high ceiling. Surrounding him with the right coaching, offensive talent, and protection will be crucial for unlocking his full potential and making him the franchise cornerstone the Bears thought he would be.
