The 2024 PFL 4 regular-season matchups at Mohegan Sun featured the men’s heavyweight and women’s flyweight divisions. Here’s a recap of the night and a look at the upcoming semifinals.
Mohegan Sun Main Card
Linton Vassell (23-9) vs. Valentin Moldavsky
It didn’t look good for Linton early in the first round, but he got it going after a stoppage for a low hit from his opponent. In the second round, Vassell struck Moldavsky with a solid knee to the head, sending him to his back in what looked like a knockout. Moldavsky somehow continued, but in the end, it was left up to the judges. Vassell took the split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Dakota Ditcheva vs. Chelsea Hackett
Ditcheva easily continued her dominant streak over Hackett with a first-round TKO (3:22). A solid body shot set up the finishing punches.
Denis Goltsov vs. Thiago Santos
Goltsov looked solid with a first-round TKO (2:22) over Santos. Goltsov made quick work of Santos, proving why he’s a top contender.
Liz Carmouche vs. Kana Watanabe
Bellator champ Carmouche got a third-round submission (4:52) against Watanabe. Carmouche got an armbar tap from Watanabe to save what might have been a decision loss.
Mohegan Sun Prelims
Taila Santos vs. Jena Bishop
Santos edged out Bishop by a split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29). Santos had much of the control time in the first round. It was back and forth in the second round between the two, with Santos getting a slight edge. Bishop fought extremely well and might have been the better fighter after the third round, but the slow start cost her the judges. She is one to watch, though.
Tyrell Fortune vs. Marcelo Golm
Fortune got the unanimous decision over Golm (30-27, 30-27, 30-26). Fortune almost knocked out Golm with just seconds to go in the first round, but the bell saved the finish. He continued with the domination but could only get the points for the decision.
Oleg Popov vs. Davion Franklin
Popov got a unanimous decision over Franklin (30-27, 30-27, 30-25).
Ilara Joanne vs. Shanna Young
Joanne got the UD over Young (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). Joanne came out fast while Young ate punches in the first, setting the tone for most of the match.
Tim Johnson vs. Danilo Marques
Johnson delivered a first-round TKO (3:14) against Marques after a lengthy stoppage from a low kick. Johnson came out fast and looked the best, but Marques turned it around, making it seem like it was only a matter of time before he got it done. A low kick from Marques forced a very long timeout for recovery time. After the match restarted, Johnson came out firing on Marques and shocked the crowd with the finish.
Juliana Velasquez vs. Lisa Mauldin
Velasquez got the victory with a second-round TKO (1:30) over Mauldin. Velasquez dominated the first but couldn’t get the stoppage for the extra points.
