The Colorado Avalanche are expected to be trade deadline buyers. The team looks to add pieces to boost their roster for a run at the playoffs.
Colorado wants to make another run at the Stanley Cup, which is possible with their talented core leading the club and their 0-4 nightmare start to the season seems to be in the rearview mirror. They are now in the thick of the playoff race in the Western Conference with a little over thirty games left to go. The deadline is March 12th, which is at least six weeks away. But, it’s not too early to anticipate the possibilities.
Trade Deadline Buyers
Standard codeThe Avalanche are looking to be buyers at the trade deadline and shore up their roster. The way they have been playing means there is a good chance that the team will make the playoffs, so they need a little help. Though injuries have the main storyline this year, forcing some younger players into game action before they are ready. The Avalanche are already trade deadline buyers as they made a shocking move this past weekend.
Fans saw one of the biggest trades in-season trades in the league’s history when the Avalanche traded star forward Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes. Colorado received Hurricanes forwards Martin Necas and Jack Drury, who have already played in three games. The team discussed a contract extension for Rantanen, a pending free agent. They could not facilitate a deal that both could agree on, so the team decided to move on.
Possible Targets
Standard codeThe fascinating part about all this is that the Avalanche may not be done making moves. They seem to be all on so it would be more of a shock if they did not do anything else. Colorado needs a little more help in the defense and special teams department. Therefore, J.T. Miller is the most realistic target for them and Mitch Marner could also be an option. The team is trying to work with the small cap space they have left though the trade helps free it up.l
Colorado could be involved in major rumors this year as they try to make a playoff run. They could make some surprise moves and add more talent in the next month or so. Stay tuned for more NHL news and stories like this one.
