Cole Beasley has been the most vocal member of the Buffalo Bills when discussing the NFL’s COVID policy. He’s continuously voiced his displeasure and claimed that “God’s will” should take priority. Beasley claims he isn’t anti-vaxx, but rather that he’s pro-choice. It’s an understandable stance to take, and given recent news, his message might be rubbing off on his teammates. Fellow Buffalo Bills teammate Isaiah McKenzie has also been exercising his right to choose what he wants to do, like not follow the NFL’s mask-mandate, which has resulted in a $14,650 fine.

Isaiah McKenzie, who is unvaccinated, seems to think that tweeting “you win” to the NFL along with a copy of the fine was a good idea. A fine, that by the way, has his email attached to it for everyone to see. I can’t blame him though, the NFL is a violent game, and maybe he’s taken one too many hits. There’s a great chance the Buffalo Bills wideout has no idea what he’s doing. Cole Beasley quickly jumped to his teammate’s defense, however, tweeting, “Don’t worry they got me too.”

Apparently, even with all the factual information released this off-season regarding COVID, Cole Beasley still needs someone to make it make sense for him. He and McKenzie are acting like the victims in a situation that was easily avoidable. While I refuse to spoon-feed easily accessible information to Beasley, I will explain how he could seriously hurt his team.

The Bills Versus Their Wide Receivers

With over 90% of the NFL vaccinated, it’s not very favorable for two of your wide receivers to be unvaccinated. The life of a vaccinated player, as opposed to their unvaccinated counterpart, is far less strict. As of August 24th, Beasley is barred from the team’s facility for five days due to being in close contact with a trainer who tested positive. For context, if he were vaccinated, he’s wouldn’t be forced to immediately go home if he were asymptomatic. The regular season hasn’t even started yet, and already we’re seeing a disaster waiting to happen.

The NFL has stated that if a team can’t play due to COVID-related issues, they will forfeit the game. With McKenzie and Beasley being so adamant about their rights as human beings, there’s a real possibility they could cost their team a game, even if it was by accident. Be it they themselves can’t play, or they cause an outbreak amongst the team. Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera sounded off on his team’s low vaccination rates claiming he was “beyond frustrated” with the low numbers. Maybe it’s time for Bills head coach Sean McDermott to sound off as well.

The Buffalo Bills have a Super Bowl-caliber roster and are a favorite to come out of the AFC. The last thing they need is players like Cole Beasley and Isaiah McKenzie to mess it up. Remaining unvaccinated is one thing, but blatantly disregarding the NFL’s mask-mandate is nothing short of selfish. Beasley, who has demonstrated major diva-tendencies this off-season, is bound to make this season even more difficult for himself, and quite possibly, his team.

Whining and moaning on Twitter won’t get the NFL to change their policy. If Beasley doesn’t like the NFL’s rules, maybe he should exercise his right to retire. It’d save his team from all the drama he brings. Does that make sense, Cole?

Growing up in a single-parent household came with its perks and downsides. Perk, I became very close to my mother. The downside, she wasn't a sports watcher. It wasn't until I was 15 years old that I was introduced to the world of sports/sports media. That's when I truly fell in love with it all. And it wasn't the X's and O's that won me over, it was the deep-rooted stories of the business, the athletes, and the ever so changing nature of sports that intrigued me. As a recent college graduate and Communications major, I hope to put my imprint on the sports media world.
