Lions versus the Cardinals
The Detroit Lions are starting to look like a real NFL team. After upsetting the Arizona Cardinals 30-12, they have improved their record to 2-11-1 in 2021. The two clubs appeared to have switched uniforms before the game. Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw for 216 YDS and 3 TD for a QBR of 93.9 in this matchup. Arizona’s Kyler Murray threw for more yards, 257, but had just one touchdown and an interception. All this added up for a 7.6 QBR.
Takeaways From the Game
A lot of conclusions may be drawn after an upset of this magnitude. Especially with the Cardinals battling for the top spot in the conference. The Lions are once again jubilant to win another game. Detroit was once thought of as likely to go winless for the second time in franchise history. Now Dan Campbell has led his team to their second win in three weeks. That makes one for each knee cap he talked about in his introduction as team head coach. The Lions now have a chance at not finishing last in their division. It is a long shot, but that is more than many expected for them this year.
The Cardinals are going in the opposite direction though. They started the season by winning their first seven games in a row. They have since fallen to 10-4 this year after this past week. I recognize there are decent reasons for this skid. They were without Murray for a while due to an injury earlier this season. With him being limited along with DeAndre Hopkins and J.J. Watt also being hurt makes the situation worse for Arizona. It looks so bad that they are in danger of losing their division to the Los Angeles Rams.
If the Cardinals get all these players healthy and go to go by the playoffs, they will be just fine. If they cannot though, it may be time for Larry Fitzgerald to come out of retirement and help Arizona chase the ring he has always wanted. I would also say those odds are extremely small, but a football fan can dream.
