By acquiring point guard Jalen Brunson from the Dallas Mavericks during the NBA summer, the New York Knicks were able to fill their most significant positional need. They also improved the center position by acquiring Isaiah Hartenstein from the Los Angeles Clippers.
In 35 days, on Wednesday, the New York Knicks will begin their 2022–23 NBA campaign, and in less than two weeks, training camp will start for all 30 clubs in the league. Over the next several weeks, there will probably be a number of acquisitions since teams are only allowed to carry 20 players during training camp. Gaming season is also betting season. The Knicks only went 37-45 in the previous campaign, missing the NBA Playoffs despite earning the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. On October 19, they will play the Memphis Grizzlies on the road to begin the new campaign.
The Players
The New York Knicks may still be in contact with Danny Ainge. The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Donovan Mitchell after New York pursued him, but the Knicks are allegedly also interested in Bojan Bogdanovic of the Utah Jazz.
Bogdanovic, 33, has spent the last three seasons with Utah, but given that the Jazz is rebuilding, he will probably soon be playing for a fifth organization. His professional career began in 2014 with the Brooklyn Nets, and he might soon return to New York City.
Also, on Wednesday 14, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Knicks added DaQuan Jeffries to their roster for training camp.
Charania: “The New York Knicks are signing forward DaQuan Jeffries on a training camp deal, sources tell The Athletic and Stadium. Jeffries spent the last three seasons with the Kings, Rockets, and Grizzlies.”
The College Park Skyhawks, a G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, will have an entirely new lineup in 2019. A.J. Lawson and Justin Tillman have signed two-way contracts with the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Cat Barber has left to play in the overseas leagues.
This level of player movement exemplifies why the Skyhawks were among the most dangerous teams in the G League after the previous season. Another athlete signed a deal with an NBA team’s training camp.
DaQuan Jeffries, who had a solid start to the last campaign, has joined the New York Knicks. Even though the Hawks and Knicks have a long-standing rivalry due to how the Hawks eliminated the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs the previous season, it is encouraging to see former players given new opportunities in the NBA.
Three Former All-Stars Are Not Receiving Any Attention
The Knicks just gave RJ Barrett a new long-term contract. They demonstrated their confidence in All-Star forward Julius Randle by refusing to trade him, demonstrating they have what it takes to contend in the Eastern Conference. They still need to fill a few roster places, though, and in recent weeks, they have been linked to some former All-Star free agents.
Three prominent players still available, Carmelo Anthony, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Blake Griffin, may all be desirable additions for the Knicks to make to their squad before the 2022–23 season. Still, it doesn’t seem like any of these veterans are on the team’s radar.
The Knicks do not consider any of these veterans to be “a good match at the moment,” according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. New York does not anticipate expressing interest in signing any of them over the upcoming weeks leading up to training camp.
