Rookie Marcus Jones finished the Jets late on Sunday, making the play of the year. The Patriots defense is playing at an extremely high level. They have been winning games for the Pats all year long but not like this.
Jones was a player we drafted for plays just like that. A punt return for a touchdown is one thing, an 84-yard game winning punt return is another.
Jones’ game winning punt return was also the first punt return for a touchdown all season, amongst the entire NFL, which Bill Belichick mentioned in his postgame press conference.
Bill had his guys ready for this. They were aware that the game may come down to a special teams play as Marcus Jones stated in his own press conference.
It was a special moment for this team and the fanbase. It has been a slow and stale season for Patriots fans and players. That play gave us the sense of Patriot pride that has been absent for this season.
Although the score may say otherwise the Patriots offense played well versus the Jets. Mac Jones finished the game with his best QBR of the season with 104. He was a few first downs away from a much cleaner victory. I believe at this point in the season it is obvious that Joe Judge has had a negative effect on the Patriots offense. Time is running low for the offense to find their rhythm.
Patriots Defense
As for the Patriots defense things couldn’t be going any better. The Pats defense was once again dominant. Zach Wilson was 9/22 with 77-yards. It is funny to see how much damage a struggling Pats team can still do. Over the last month our defense has emerged as the best in the NFL.
Looking Forward
The Patriots have the opportunity to get a big win over the Vikings on Thanksgiving night. This should be a big primetime game that everyone will be watching.
